The people and the states will decide on the two popular initiatives on March 3. The two slogans were adopted without votes against, the party announced on Saturday.
There will be a pension showdown at the ballot box on March 3. The voters will then decide on two AHV initiatives: on the one hand, on the unions’ popular initiative for a 13th AHV pension. On the other hand, about the pension initiative of the Young Liberals.
The trade unions’ popular initiative “for a better life in old age” calls for the introduction of a 13th AHV pension. If the answer is yes, a thirteenth monthly salary for seniors will be added to the previous twelve monthly pensions.
The Young Liberals’ pension initiative wants to increase the retirement age. First, it should gradually increase from 65 to 66 years by 2033 and then be linked to life expectancy: per month of additional life expectancy it should increase by 0.8 months – to 67, 68 or more. Automatically.
Details about both initiatives can be found here.

According to the announcement, delegates also unanimously voted against highway expansion. “More roads only mean one thing: more traffic,” the party wrote on X. The Greens thus support the referendum against the highway expansion that parliament adopted last fall. The vote on this proposal will take place later this year.
The delegates also expressed their yes slogans against the Electricity Act. “The law is at the heart of the energy transition and especially promotes rooftop solar and electricity efficiency, i.e. the two best solutions for nature and the environment,” Zurich National Councilor Bastien Girod said in the statement.
The Greens also adopted a resolution to promote media diversity. The pressure on journalism is constantly increasing, they wrote. A tax cut for radio and television would increase this pressure instead of strengthening media diversity. In their resolution, the Greens call on the Federal Council to refrain from reducing the SRG through regulations and to hold a discussion on strengthening the SRG.
The outgoing chairman of the Green Party, Balthasar Glättli, was combative during the last delegation meeting under his leadership. ‘Let’s stay brave. Let’s stick together,” he said, according to the statement. The Greens are needed now more than ever, and everyone together, Glättli said. “With 2023, the hottest year is behind us,” he said. And the next warmest year has probably begun.
Glättli painted a bleak picture of the current situation in the world. It’s not just the climate and nature that are in crisis, “wars and conflicts shape the daily lives of countless people.” Glättli is also concerned that right-wing parties are gaining strength in many places. He emphasized the responsibility of the Greens: “With the second best result in our history, we have the second largest Green faction.”
The party is the alternative to technical megalomania with an environmental policy that respects nature and its boundaries. The outgoing president highlighted the successes of the last term, including the drafting of the climate protection law and the fight for a modern sexual criminal law. (SDA)
