The treasuries are full to the brim for the battle for the upcoming pension votes.
On May 3, Swiss voters will decide on the introduction of a 13th AHV pension. In addition, the pension initiative, which initially prescribes a retirement age of 66 and subsequently a retirement age linked to life expectancy, will also be voted on the same day.
The new transparency rules oblige political associations and parties to make their budgets public for both votes. Now the Federal Audit Office (SFAO) has provided a first insight into how rich the political actors are.
One of the most important dates of the year is approaching for the trade union federation: the vote on the 13th AHV pension. Your budget for the fight for pension benefits is approximately 1.4 million francs.
Of this, 550,000 francs comes from the unions and 220,000 francs from the SP. And there were small donations from the population totaling 620,000 francs.
The opponents of the 13th AHV pension have more in their pockets. They claim that Switzerland cannot afford this. To convince voters of their opinion, the ‘No to the 13th AHV pension’ alliance has almost twice as much money as the supporters: 3,560,000 francs.
The economic umbrella organization Economiesuisse alone, led by director Monika Rühl (61), receives 2,750,000 francs. The employers’ association paid 250,000 francs and the professional association donated 200,000 francs.
The battle for the pension initiative from the Young Liberals is being waged with less money. The supporters have budgeted 897,000 francs. They can count on a large donation from a banker of 230,000 francs.
The opponents of the pension initiative only have 106,000 francs at their disposal. Supporters include the Federation of Trade Unions and the Unia trade union. The latter donates 16,000 francs in the fight against the increase in the retirement age.
However, it is still too early to make a definitive estimate of how much money is available in the political battle over the pension proposals. The budget can also be increased during the campaigns, i.e. in the coming days.
The new transparency rules stipulate that campaigns worth more than 50,000 francs must be made public in federal elections and votes. For donations above 15,000 francs, the donor is mentioned by name.
