What would be appropriate: more privileges for the Federal Council!

The state government should be given more privileges.
Pascal TischhauserDeputy Head of Politics

The village butcher always asked: “Dörfs es bitzeli meh si?”. Nowadays everyone is vegetarian or at least they don’t eat meat in January. The demand now goes from the population to the Federal Council. Ultimately, the state government should not starve. If there is no royal family in the pocket, at least the seven federal council members should be able to do so.

This doesn’t mean the little extravagances that make life as a member of government truly worth living. Such as an all-round limousine service or the air taxi service to Ticino. And the free ski GA, which the state government absolutely does not want to give up. She rightly took the time to attend several meetings of the Federal Council to determine that we could no longer do without it. Bravo!

Pension good, everything is good

The fact that the spouses of Mr and Mrs Federal Councilors are still entitled to a survivor’s pension of a paltry 142,000 francs per year after the death of the magistrates is more than justified, especially in times of loss of purchasing power.

Facilities for federal councilors
Fight for widow’s pension
The Federal Council wants to save – except itself
For $109 million
The Federal Council treats itself to a ‘palace of the air’
Runway in Belp is too short
The ‘Palace of the Skies’ doesn’t get far

It is already shameful that a female federal councilor and even a Mr. Federal councilor does not earn at least half a million francs a year, but slightly less. Precisely! The federal councilors cannot even be happy with a significant pay gap between men and women.

In any case, numerous European royal families enjoy much more extensive privileges. This is where the Confederacy should have the books. For example, is it appropriate for members of the Federal Council to pay Serafe fees? Anyone who gives the SRG as many cheap broadcasting minutes as a federal council member should be entitled – if at all – to appropriate compensation!

And of course it is wrong that the tax authorities do not distinguish between the regency and the bourgeoisie. After all, we work to make money. In order to do contract work, we have to pay taxes. Federal councilors, on the other hand, should be able to freely use the public treasury, instead of having to pay into it.

Insult of the Federal Council

But of course the prerogatives of our magistrates cannot be limited to financial benefits. First of all, we journalists should take a look at our own olfactory organs and stop sticking them in everything. After all, it is our own fault if we are bothered by the fact that something in politics is not just a bit nice, but stinks to high heaven. But our greatest impertinence is to inform everyone that there are no pleasant smells around a federal councilor.

While in Germany defaming the Federal President is punishable by at least five years in prison, in this country only insulting foreign heads of state is currently a crime. Thailand is much further: in this Southeast Asian country, lese majeste can be punished with fifteen years in prison.

How about twenty years for insulting the Federal Council – plus a fine of 25,000 francs? Or is it a bit more difficult?
