Daniel Jositsch turned some colleagues from his parliamentary group against him.

Zurich SP state councilor Daniel Jositsch I58) does not see the relationship with his party broken after his wild candidacy for the Federal Council. «I am a member of the Social Democratic Party; At the moment I see no reason to change that,” he said in an interview with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung”.

However, he admits that he had absolutely no support within his group. He was not chosen on the ticket. “I accepted that.”

What happened behind the scenes
This is how the 70 Jositsch votes came about

He did not announce his resignation at Wednesday’s Federal Council elections because he did not receive enough votes for an absolute majority. “But for me it was also about the principle. This ticket doctrine goes too far,” Jositsch said in an interview with the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” published on Saturday.

“I’m quite relaxed”

“If I had stood up on Wednesday and said that I would give up the office of federal councilor if I were elected, that would have become dogma,” Jositsch said, referring to the factions’ federal council ticket. “The freedom of the Federal Assembly must remain guaranteed.” The Zurich Council of States was convinced that the ticket discussion would be conducted differently at the next Federal Council elections.

The Federal Council office would speak to him, Jositsch said. “But to be honest, I’m quite relaxed. Maybe it’s a good thing that I didn’t become a federal councilor.” The office is an “enormous job of wear and tear.” And yet: “If Beat Jans resigns tomorrow, I would run again. But I don’t expect that.”

Jositsch is calm about the fact that there were voices among his comrades who were annoyed by his behavior. “You don’t have to go into politics to find friends.” (SDA/neo)
