Negotiators from the European Parliament and EU countries agreed in Brussels on Tuesday that certain actions should be defined as criminal offences. This includes, for example, trading sanctioned goods to an affected country or helping sanctioned people to circumvent the travel ban to the EU.

In addition, anyone who provides prohibited financial services or conceals the fact that assets belong to a sanctioned person should be punished. Incitement and complicity should also be punished.

Under certain circumstances, companies should also be held accountable for such actions. The European Parliament and EU countries still have to approve the project.

These planned regulations are of particular importance in connection with Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, it was said. The EU countries are currently preparing a new package of sanctions against Russia. (SDA)
