Half of those surveyed had seen incorrect or questionable content or information on information sites or social media in the last three months before the survey, the BFS announced on Thursday. Compared to 2021, this corresponds to an increase of six percentage points.
Half of people who discovered such content said they would check the truth or source. 17 percent stated they lacked skills or knowledge for verification.
More than a third of respondents indicate that they have encountered hostile or derogatory messages against certain groups or people on the internet. The research found that this figure was almost half for social media users. Characteristics of affected persons include political or social views, origin or religion
Every two years, the BFS surveys the internet use of people between the ages of 15 and 88 in 3,000 households. The studies took place from April to July 2023.
