Women are still significantly worse off than men when it comes to occupational pension provision. New statistics confirm this. In 2022, women received an average of 1,217 francs per month from the 2nd pillar, while men received 2,077 francs.
The average amount of capital benefits paid by pension funds and vested benefit institutions was just under 153,564 francs for men and 65,622 francs for women, according to new pension statistics published on Friday by the Federal Statistical Office (BFS). So 50 percent of the pensions paid were higher and 50 percent lower than this amount.
Nearly half of those receiving the second pillar and living in Switzerland will not receive a pension until 2022. For almost 37 percent, the pension benefit was paid out in full in one go. And about a fifth opted for a combination of pension and capital.
There are clear gender differences among those who received only a pension. For women, the average amount was almost 40 percent lower than for men (1,260 francs compared to 2,205 francs). The gender difference was also clear among those who received a combination of pension and capital. The average pension for men was 2,035 francs and for women 1,192 francs.
According to the BFS, the large differences between women and men can mainly be explained by different professional careers. Women interrupt their employment more often and work part-time more often, both mainly for family reasons.
The wage difference between women and men also leads to differences in BV benefits. The BFS writes that domestic and family work, which is more often done by women, is not paid and does not affect pension benefits. (SDA)
