Today, Friday, November 24, unionized airport workers are on strike across Italy. The 24-hour strike, announced just two days ago, is affecting check-in and other airport services.

Unions demand higher wages and better working conditions.

Switzerland flies to Milan with a bigger plane

Italian aviation authority Enac points out that flights between 07.00 and 10.00 in the morning and between 18.00 and 21.00 in the evening are legally guaranteed. Switzerland operated early morning flights to Rome and Florence as planned.

However, sometimes flight cancellations may occur even within the above time period. Swiss spokesman Mike Pelzer announced to Blick that a total of 12 flights were canceled today, including Milan, Florence, Venice and Bologna. Approximately 900 passengers were affected. They were informed and, if possible, booked on other flights.

Despite the strike, Switzerland managed to operate half of the flights planned for today to the specified destinations. On the evening flight to Milan, Switzerland uses a larger aircraft than originally planned to bring additional passengers to their destination. Switzerland will cover the necessary hotel accommodation and meals until the next possible departure.

“The strike has no impact on our flight operations to our remaining destinations in Italy, but we expect isolated delays in operations,” adds Pelzer.

Other airlines also affected

Sister company Edelweiss operated its only Italian flight to Lamezia Terme on time today. Italian Ita Airways canceled 36 domestic flights, but continued its international flights from Rome to Geneva and Zurich.

Easyjet’s evening flight from Zurich to Naples has been cancelled.

Easyjet is particularly strong in Geneva and Basel. All morning flights to Rome, Naples and Venice operate here. There is currently no indication on Easyjet’s flight tracking system that evening flights from Geneva and Basel to Rome, Bari, Venice, Naples and Catania have been cancelled.
