The chance of violence at the next meeting is high, Phillippe Müller said in an interview with the “Berner Zeitung”.
Müller came to this conclusion after assessing the situation together with the police and the police intelligence service, he said in an interview on Wednesday. However, the approving authority is the city of Bern and not the canton. He took up a position as cantonal security director, Müller said.
Freedom of expression can be abused with extreme slogans, he said. Anti-Semitism is “simply not acceptable” in Switzerland.
“On the next occasion there could be more violence and more flags with prohibited content,” Müller said. No one can guarantee that extremists from Germany will not come to Switzerland to stoke the mood, he said, looking across the border.
