Zurich’s Green National Councilor Bastien Girod will not run for the Federal Council in December. (archive image)

Girod said in an interview published Thursday on blick.ch that he had concluded he was not available to run for office this winter.

With Gerhard Andrey from Freiburg, a good candidate with a similar political profile is available, according to Girod. “That made the decision easier.” Andrey will hold up the environmental and climate flag in the Federal Council. And with his digital background he brings another important expertise.

Andrey is so far the only Greens to have announced his candidacy for the Federal Council. The Greens want to attack one of the two FDP seats in the general government renewal elections on December 13. Anyone interested in standing should contact the Greens by Friday.
