For the EPP, Nik Gugger, who was re-elected as a member of the National Council, ran for the Council of States in the first round of voting; he had already announced that he would not participate in the second round.
With Regine Sauter (FDP), Philipp Kutter (center) and Daniel Leupi (Greens) having also withdrawn, the EPP is now backing GLP candidate Moser for the second round of voting. The party speaks out against the second candidate still in the race, Gregor Rutz (SVP).
In the first round of voting on October 22, of all candidates, only Daniel Jositsch (SP) achieved an absolute majority and thus qualified for the elections. Who wins the second seat will be announced on November 19.
