The council rejected the postulate at Monday’s meeting by a vote of 92 to 73, following the ruling council’s position. In his statement he stated that the number of paid parking spaces at Laufen Castle and the Rhine Falls would increase by 620 in any case. This means that approximately half of the total of approximately 2,800 cantonal places would be taxable.
There shouldn’t be more for the time being. The government council fears that otherwise there would be a risk of wild animals parking in rural areas. Moreover, the management and control effort would exceed the yield of small or poorly used systems.
