Hundreds of cases of sexual violence investigated: experts call for harmonization of contact points for victims

Sociologist Marylène Lieber examined approximately 630 cases of sexual violence in Geneva. She calls for better coordination of contact points for victims in Switzerland. (symbol image)

“It is difficult for victims to know who to turn to. The GP, the hospital, victim support, a women’s organization, the police?” says Marylène in an interview with Tamedia published on Saturday. Victims often have to complete a real obstacle course between the authorities, which means they have to repeat their story several times. “In technical terms, this is known as secondary victimization.”

Harmonizing contact points would give those involved a feeling of being heard. “This of course also depends on how large the financial resources are available,” says Marylène. (SDA)
