Only a dead wolf is a good wolf. This is certain for the SVP men and women. For the former farmer party, it is annoying that the predator regularly kills sheep, calves or lambs; last year there were 1,500 farm animals. The SVP has only one motto: fire-free!

On Thursday, the SVP will launch a new online game: “Stop the wolf!” The principle is simple: whoever kills the most wolves wins.

The Federal Council’s plans are very controversial

The SVP fully agrees with its federal councilor Albert Rösti (56). His Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) wants to kill the majority of the country’s wolves. Today there are approximately 300 wolves in 31 packs. If Rösti has his way, all but twelve packs will have to be exterminated and the population reduced by about 70 percent. The starting shot is in December.

However, the resistance is great. Last week, a petition with around 48,000 signatures against the shooting plans was not only submitted. The cantons are also fighting back. The regulation of wolves clearly goes too far. Only the agricultural perspective is taken into account. “The wolf remains a protected species and protection must be guaranteed,” writes the Directors’ Conference for Forests, Nature and Landscape.

SVP demands zero tolerance

The SVP, on the other hand, cannot move fast enough. “Zero tolerance must apply in residential areas – people and farm animals must also be protected from wolf attacks through preventive shooting,” says Valais councilor Michael Graber (42). No further slowdown can be expected from the mountain population and agriculture.

Until then, SVP voters and others can control the wolf on their laptop or mobile phone. The party also offers prizes. If you are lucky, you have a chance to win a voucher of 300 francs for mutton from councilor and farmer Marcel Dettling (42). The second prize is a voucher of 200 francs for the Goldau SZ nature and animal park.

However, this will hardly appease the opponents of the launch plans. (dba)
