To be set up in the short term: the federal government is defining new emergency waiting rooms for trucks

The trucks continue towards Germany the next day. Waiting rooms are used to manage busy traffic during traffic jams, highway incidents, weather restrictions or blockages such as strikes and holidays.

In northwestern Switzerland, the number of parking spaces available for trucks heading towards France and Germany has in the past proven to be insufficient, especially on public holidays there. As Astra announced on Thursday, it has therefore set up additional emergency waiting rooms on the A2 and A3 motorways towards the north.

These are located on the A2 at the Belchensüdrampe and on the A3 at Mumpf between the Eiken and Rheinfelden-Ost junctions in Aargau. The space on the A2 can accommodate 135 trucks.

It will be placed on the standard lane of the highway, while other traffic will drive along it in two lanes. There is also the Eggberg rest area with a further 20 parking spaces. The replacement waiting room at Mumpf can accommodate 200 trucks and is also on standard gauge.

The emergency waiting room on the A22 between Sissach BL and Itingen BL will remain in place. But it will only take action when the two new emergency room waiting rooms are full. The Itingen connection will be closed when put into use.
