BFI message: Criticism of payments for Swiss research and training

The scope of payments in the field of Swiss research and education provided for in the federal ERI message has been criticized. (symbol image)

Numerous advocacy groups demanded that funding grow 2.5 percent between 2025 and 2028, instead of the nominal two percent the federal government had planned. “The federal design is characterized by cuts,” the Conference of Cantonal Directors of Education (EDK) criticized the message.

Everyone agrees that maintaining Switzerland’s attractiveness as a business and research location is a priority. However, the SP and the Greens believe that the budget of 29.7 billion francs will hardly be sufficient for this. At most it will offset inflation.

The message to the House of Representatives is expected to be adopted at the end of February 2024. It was the first to be sent for public consultation.
