Fewer obstacles: National Council wants new rules for inheritance by SMEs

class=”sc-29f61514-0 icZBHN”>

The National Council wants to make the succession of family businesses within inheritance law easier. (subject image)

The Grand Chamber approved the deal on Wednesday with 119 votes in favor, 64 against and one abstention. The SVP faction, part of the center faction and some FDP members said no. Opponents called the template too complicated. This would also lead to unequal treatment of heirs.

However, the majority in the National Council stated that it was not in the interests of the Swiss economy if a company had to be liquidated because the business succession for several potential heirs had not been arranged. This resulted in the loss of jobs, continuity and knowledge, among other things.

The National Council will now discuss the details of the proposal.
