The QR code is not intended to replace the written information on the packaging or package leaflet, but rather to supplement it. This is what the author of the motion now accepted by both councils, Marcel Dobler (FDP/SG), wrote. It is important to use digitalization to improve patient safety.
This would mean that the packaging information would be available in more languages than just the national languages. Anyone who scans the QR code with their mobile phone is automatically redirected to the drug manufacturer’s information on the Internet.
The Federal Council also recommended the proposal for acceptance. Patient safety is also increased because, for example, people with a visual impairment can have the information read out loud via the internet.
The Federal Council pointed out that the sector must be given appropriate transition periods for implementation. The text of the motion mentions five years. (SDA)
