That didn’t take long! A few days after Green Zurich National Councilor Meret Schneider (31) was allowed to tweet again, her account on X, as the platform of Tesla founder Elon Musk (52) is now called, was blocked again.
Schneider did nothing! On the contrary, her tweet, which was the reason for the first ban, was again massively reported. In it, she commented on an article from ’20 Minutes’: ‘Write your online comments now about why polarization and populism are really the worst and why these overpaid political idiots should be hanged on their own damn federal terrace! (Don’t forget the capital letters) #populism.”
The article discussed the fact that the Swiss population is particularly annoyed by populism and polarization in the local political system.
“There is a whole gang that is currently taking action against me,” she writes on Facebook. ‘Guys, is this your way of campaigning? Just cancel me from social networks? I’m not a big fish, the pond is big enough.”
Just like a week ago, celebrities are showing their solidarity with her. Viktor Giacobbo (71) writes: “Meret Schneider is apparently being reported to X by people who cannot recognize a clear parody of online comments in her old tweet,” the satirist writes. “Let’s see how much ‘free speech’ and humor is still possible with Musk/X…”
At X, algorithms mainly determine who is banned. X does not disclose how these work. As a result, unwarranted and arbitrary blocking can occur, specialist lawyer Martin Steiger recently criticized: “Everyone should expect to be blocked at any time.” Which has now become reality. (sf)
