Federal Constitution: “Tilo” unveiled in the Federal Palace on the occasion of the 175th anniversary

The work of art “Tilo” in the facade field, the tympanum of the Federal Palace, was unveiled on Tuesday at exactly 6:48 PM during the public ceremony on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the Federal Constitution and thus of modern Switzerland.

Behind “Tilo” is the artist couple Renée Levi and Marcel Schmid. The artwork consists of 246 ceramic plates that reflect differently depending on the light. They represent the 200 seats in the National Council and the 46 seats in the Council of States.

The facade of the parliament building in Bern, which has been empty for 120 years, has been given a contemporary decoration. The mosaic is called “Tilo” in honor of one of the first Swiss national council members.

“Now that democracy is under threat in many parts of the world, we can be proud of a constitution that respects human dignity, protects against discrimination and equal opportunities, strengthens diversity, tolerance and freedom,” said Federal Councilor Baume-Schneider on X. previously Twitter.

The event started with pop music and was moderated in three languages.
