A majority of the Zurich canton council wants to make destructive demonstrators and activists pay: Parliament decided on Monday to recommend for acceptance the counter-proposal to the Young SVP’s anti-chaotic initiative. The people have the final say.
The counter-proposal, drawn up by the government council and further tightened by the responsible committee, aims to send the bill “for extraordinary police operations” to those responsible in the future, provided that they have acted deliberately.
Climate stickers must be billed in the future, just like participants in violent May Day demonstrations or squatters. Part of this counter-proposal is also a mandatory permit requirement for demonstrations in all communities. This is intended to overrule the city of Zurich, which for a long time did not grant a permit for the Velodemo Critical Mass.
The anti-chaotic initiative of the Young SVP, which is not supported by the canton council and the government council, has the same core demands, but differs in some details. It wants to enforce that the costs of police operations are passed on to the organizers, in order to create an automatic system.
The SP, Greens and AL were against the initiative and the counter-proposal. They fear a deterrent effect, namely that people will no longer participate in demonstrations for fear of a police law. (SDA)
