The Credit Suisse Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry provides information on the launch and initial meetings. Blick will broadcast the media conference live from 5.30 pm in the stream and in the ticker.
Lights out! Credit Suisse is a thing of the past. On March 19, 2023, Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter (59) and Federal President Alain Berset (51) together with Finma boss and bank boss announced the demise of the once proud Swiss bank. The bank accounts of a spectacular special session behind closed doors must be spared.
But now a parliamentary committee of inquiry must shed light on the matter. Do you want to know whether the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets (Finma), the Federal Council and the National Bank (SNB) have stood still for too long? And did they respond correctly?
That is now decided by 14 members of the National Council and the Council of States: Isabelle Chassot (58), a member of the Freiburg Council of States, chairs the committee of inquiry, her deputy is the Green National Council, Franziska Ryser (31) . On Tuesday they want to give information about the work of the PUK at a media conference.
The PUK is the strictest means of parliamentary oversight of the Bundesrat and administration. It can call and hear witnesses and see secret Federal Council documents. This is particularly important in the CS case, because a large part of the documents for the acceptance of the CS are kept under lock and key. Requests from the media to see them, citing the Public Information Act, were rejected by the administration.
There have been four parliamentary inquiries so far. The presidium can also become a career springboard: in 1989, former SP federal councilor Moritz Leuenberger (76) headed a PUK that investigated the Kopp case and thus exposed the fichen affair.
The PUK is now informing about the start of the investigations and the first meetings. Blick will broadcast the media conference live from 5.30 pm in the stream and in the ticker. (brother)
