Federal councilors at the women’s run: here Amherd and Baume-Schneider cheer together at the finish

The women’s run took place in Bern on Sunday. With Elisabeth Baume-Schneider (59) and Viola Amherd (61), two Federal Council members started the traditional event for the first time.

The two didn’t seem too sporty. The federal councilors compete in the “Easy Walk for All” category over three kilometers. This leads through the old town of Bern to the finish on the Bundeshausplatz.

Also in the election year there was no hard competition between the two, on the contrary: after 27 minutes the two magistrates ran hand in hand across the finish line. They were joined by former Federal Councilor Ruth Metzler (59), SP National Councilor Flavia Wasserfallen (44) and Groen-Berner City Councilor Franziska Teuscher (65).

Amherd practiced extra

“I’ve wanted to start with the women’s run for a long time,” said Sports Minister Amherd to the “Berner Zeitung”. This year she is doing it for two reasons. On the one hand because of the message about breast cancer prevention, on the other hand because about 70 women from their party take part in the run. Motivated by the lady, she completed the route twice as training.

“I’m not that athletic,” Justice Minister Baume-Schneider said openly on SRF’s news broadcast on Saturday. Her husband and children are more active in this. With her participation she wanted to show solidarity with breast cancer patients. Several people in her family were affected.

This year, 9,000 women signed up for the run. With your participation you support the prevention of breast cancer. (she)
