According to Parliament, foreign general practitioners with a Swiss university degree should be able to benefit from an exceptional permit. (archive image)

After the National Council approved a bill from the Federal Council in March, the Council of States also approved the bill on Monday. For detailed advice, it now goes back to the preliminary advisory committee of the Council of States, which had requested non-admission for constitutional reasons.

According to the bill introduced by the Federal Council and slightly modified by the National Council, people should benefit from working in an industry with a shortage of skilled workers. Their employment must also be “of great scientific or economic interest” to Switzerland.

For example, the Federal Council and the National Council targeted computer scientists, technicians and doctors.
