There is also an SVP in Zurich.

Why is the population in the countryside not green? It may also have something to do with agriculture.
Thomas Meyerwriter and columnist

It has to do with what people experience and don’t experience in their living environment. So what is close and what is far. It is not surprising that those cantons in which the proportion of foreigners is the lowest are the most hostile to foreigners – after all, they hardly see them and therefore can attribute the worst to them in their head. People in the city, on the other hand, are surrounded by different cultures and subcultures and therefore have a much more realistic and generous view of them. After all, it is not the people who live there who are angry at the reduction of parking spaces in cities, but those who love to drive there.

Conversely, one might wonder why people in the countryside, who are surrounded by much more nature, are almost never green politically. The environment of life must also be formative in the sense that nature is experienced and considered worthy of protection. But all the environmental initiatives of recent years have been thrown to the vote by the cantons, in which agriculture plays an important role. Apparently prevails to spite everyone
Closeness to nature – or maybe because of it – is an almost imperialistic way of thinking about the environment that man has to subordinate.

It’s hard to make general statements about this because it’s a complex issue and many environmentally conscious people also live in the countryside, and there’s also an SVP in Zurich that hilariously opposes foreigners, gender language, and 30s zones. In any case, politics are not facts, such as glyphosate being a proven carcinogen, but emotions. And they have a habit of boiling quickly – one has only to read this column.
