I know people who say their personal Advent calendar is made up of 24 Christmas movies: every evening a joy to tune in to the Christmas season, which is so dark this time, to save energy. I can understand this, and I also understand that Netflix, Apple TV, Disney, whatever they are called, are increasingly becoming an integral part of Swiss family budgets.
So I keep an eye on how prices develop here. I follow Netflix because, according to Statista, more than half of its users used the service in 2021. I contacted the company about a recent price increase earlier this year. It is important for me that all participants know that for companies with a large market share, “everything” is impossible in terms of price. For example, he should be able to make a stronger case for different prices in a country than the average income, purchasing power and/or cost of living in the country. From my point of view, cost-based reasons have special weight on the scale.
What this means for streaming providers: Any discrimination against Swiss customers in comparison to neighboring countries should be avoided. These recommendations apply to streaming providers as they do to all other service and product providers: Discrimination is its own target over time because it means consumers are being scammed. You (and I) will not tolerate this without grumbling. Or, to put it another way: only a Christmas goose can be gutted…
