It’s that time again – on Tuesday it’s: “It’s Election Night in America!”
The US midterm elections are approaching. The moment when even the Swiss turn on CNN. There host John King tells us the same thing for hours in front of his legendary “Magic Wall”.
Intermediate results are not particularly impressive for Switzerland. It’s not about the White House. Not for the president. Not directly about Clinton, Trump or Biden. We are talking about deputies and senators.
Midterm elections are always important. Because politics in America is basically done by the Congress (Parliament). And when it comes to economic policy, Switzerland has a lot at stake.
The US economy is not doing well right now. High inflation. Rising interest rates. fear of a recession. And Switzerland is connected with America. Very much stronger than ever!
In 2021, the US became Switzerland’s most important export country for the first time. The Swiss also prefer to invest – if abroad – in the US. And the love is mutual: last year, America was the largest foreign investor in Switzerland.
Even the daughter of the ex-President Ivanka Trump and First Lady Jill Biden are interested in our country. The dual system of education – apprenticeship – did its job with them. Under Ivanka Trump, Switzerland has entered into an agreement to that effect. Numerous Swiss companies in America are now hiring apprentices.
Switzerland and America are just right for each other. It doesn’t matter if the president’s name is Trump or Biden. It doesn’t matter if Republicans or Democrats are in the majority. Both sides have already shown themselves in overcoming the economic crisis.
In this regard, Switzerland has nothing to worry about. And we can count on it: if Americans get better again in the coming years, we will get an additional boost!
