Why this Lent?

The Church divides the year into liturgical timesfollows the different stages of Jesus’ life. It is not that the Lord is born, dies and rises again every year. He has already risen forever and sits at the right hand of the Father and is the king of the universe.

He lives forever. He has already conquered sin and death and dies no more. Representing the different stages of Jesus’ life, when he was a baby, a teenager, a young man and a mature man, and when he died on the cross, are ways of remembering what his life was like, how he he incarnated and became a man, took on human reality in all its aspects. And recognize that he did all that for us.

And in the case of his death, look at what the whole process looked like in which human malice pursued him, cornered him until it killed him. But all this had a purpose: to save us from eternal death, to open the gates of heaven for us, to make us children of God, to be resurrected and live with Him forever. Furthermore, through this sinister conspiracy we see how Satan leads various powers, religiously, politically and economically unite and destroy the person of Jesus.

Vile envy is used, because Jesus moved, called and won the hearts of multitudes. Fear is being promoted because the various powers believed that Jesus came to uninstall the entire machinery of domination and take away their property and other privileges. The hidden idolatry in the worship of the temple and the law, the money amassed by the Jewish priests and the Roman Empire with Caesar as their god are activated to cause the desire to kill him and thus prevent the loss of what the false gods have given to their worshippers.

Thus, in this season of Lent, the entire liturgy is focused on emphasizing aspects of the circumstances that led Jesus to sacrifice himself, to sacrifice himself for us. And that culminates in Holy Week, in which we live passion and death of Jesus, and ends on Easter Sunday.

And the dead Christ rose again, and that is the key to our faith, otherwise our faith and beliefs would be empty and absurd.. Following and worshiping a corpse makes no sense.

Therefore, it is good and healthy to deepen in all that our liturgy suggests, both in their celebrations and in their Lenten customs, taking into account their pious exercises and the small but significant sacrifices that are proposed. Via crucis, processions and other traditional displays of faith in the community are highly recommended.
