If someone in sports says, “I want to be an Olympic champion,” they applaud. This is the right attitude. In politics, the opposite is true. Anyone who is under the dome of the Federal Palace with high ambitions will soon have their wings clipped – too big ambitions look suspicious.
The fact that Daniel Jozic, member of the Council of States of the Zurich Party, absolutely wants to become a member of the Federal Council, may finally ruin him this fall. Jozic nearly killed his chances last December when, against his party’s will, he entered the race to succeed the retired SP magistrate Simonetta Sommaruga.
Elisabeth Baume-Schneider was elected, but many of the comrades secretly vowed revenge: Jozic permanently denied himself the opportunity to be elected because of his supposedly anti-social advances on the part of many social democrats.
On Tuesday, Jozic is likely to explain to the media why he is running again for a seat in the government, despite resistance within the party, now when it comes to the successor to the outgoing Alain Berset.
And why not? Are not the desire for creation, perseverance and unconditional will to achieve great things ideal conditions for the development of this country? Modesty is a virtue, as they say in good Swiss. However, in politics, it rarely wins with its help. Switzerland needs more Josic, not less.
