Everyone in Bern agrees that healthcare costs are spiraling out of control. The next premium shock is inevitable in autumn. However, there is controversy about therapy to stop the disturbing development.

The FDP’s new proposal seems smart at first glance: Mandatory generics, higher deductibles, mandatory electronic patient records are all reasonable measures that meet with great public approval.

Problem: Liberals want to package them in a “light” insurance model. Those who opt for restrictions on basic insurance should pay less.
