ISAF Cash Enforcement: Away with ATMs

Will wrestling fans be in a good mood after ISAF? Cash can cause problems…
Nicola AbtJournalism student at Ringye

The ATM is dead. This is good. Over the past three years, about 1,000 cars have disappeared. I save extra meters for a wad of cash. What do I want with this? As a “reward” there are several centimes, which are unlikely to get rid of. Who likes to look for the right coin at the checkout? I prefer to pull out a credit card or cell phone. This saves time and nerves.

There is no more efficient payment method. Yet the OK of the Central Swiss Wrestling Festival refused to do so. Over 12,000 visitors to Dagmersellen LU can only pay in cash. The reasons for this are traditional and financial. It is doubtful that the cash route was actually cheaper. Think of the transport and security costs of hundreds of thousands of francs.

The traditional aspect is well received by older wrestlers. Last year’s survey of means of payment by the Swiss National Bank found that people aged 55 and over still carry just over 140 francs in cash. But what if paying in cash leads to longer queues? Woe to that diehard fan who misses the top gear because of coin counting. Then the money loses its last followers.
