The moment has come when we can no longer lighten the “fever” with a new (money) envelope, because almost a third of the insured now need a premium reduction. The path from the patient’s wallet to “easy money” is no longer efficient due to the widespread decline in the same area. But if patients can’t fix the problem, all that’s left is to do what the devil has avoided for years, such as abstaining from holy water: “Clean the system.” We’re not talking about “little animals making a mess”, we’re talking about a lot of money.

If you’re afraid that we’re all going to suffer from “gathering”, I can assure you: no one wants that. Only system errors and misguided incentives should get in the way. For example, you can see how much your insurance pays for heart attack treatment or artificial knee joint replacement at various Swiss hospitals. For example, a large health insurance company pays about 1,500 francs less for an artificial knee joint at the Hohmad clinic in Bern than at the Oberaargau district hospital in Bern.

Why? The health insurance law would actually be very clear: it stipulates that the tariffs should be based on the hospital providing the compulsory insured service of the required quality, efficiently and inexpensively. No single hospital has the right to cover its costs.
