BFS reports: Employment continues to rise at the start of the year

The number of employment increased by 2.2 percent compared to the previous year, increasing for the eighth consecutive year. Overall, the Federal Statistical Office (BFS) counted 5,389 million employees in Switzerland in the first quarter, according to a statement released on Friday. Converted to full-time jobs, total employment in Switzerland would be 4.206 million full-time jobs. This represents an increase of 2.4 percent compared to the previous year.

Expectations are still “good”, although the employment prospects indicator fell 1.0 percent year-on-year to 1.07, according to the BFS.

Difficulties in finding skilled workers have increased again. The situation in the hospitality industry has eased somewhat, while companies in mechanical engineering have been particularly affected.
