Phone rings, unknown number. You answer – and immediately someone wants to sell you a product.

This is exactly what happened to Blick reader Selina F.* (40). He waited for a call and picked up the phone. The expected person was not on the line, he was an employee of the Swisscom store in Winterthur ZH, of which Selina F. was already a customer.

According to Selina F, the gentleman on the phone said, “I would like to let you know that we have prepared great products for you.” Then she introduced F. to two products named “Blue Security & Service S” and “Blue Security & Service S” and “Blue”. TV Ş”. The first is designed to protect against cybercrime. The second is a TV offer with more than 150 channels and replay functionality.

Incorrect information given

According to her own statement, although Selina F. told the seller several times that she did not need the products, she still sent the offer to herself. “He told me he’d open now. You can always cancel,” recalls F.

At the same time, the Swisscom employee assured over the phone that the “Blue Security & Service S” product will be free for three months. After that, it will not automatically renew. “He said I had to actively report for it to be extended,” says F.

But this is not true at all: the product costs CHF 9.90 per month from the fourth month. The subscription continues automatically. After all, you can cancel the offer at any time.

The “Blue TV S” offer is also free for only six months. After that, it costs CHF 14.90 per month.

Swisscom approves promotional campaign

When asked by Blick, Swisscom confirmed that a promotional campaign is currently running for the products. “We show customers such offers in-store and through the hotline, and the service is activated if customers are interested,” a spokesperson said. According to the spokesperson, customers are informed that the costs will occur after three or six months. It remains unclear why this did not happen to Selina F.: Swisscom is not commenting on the case.

“I find this behavior underground,” said Selina F. By the way, he canceled the products himself before the free trial period expired.
