Rainer E. Gut secretly resigns as Honorary President

class=”sc-3778e872-0 cKDKQr”>

Rainer E. Gut at the Annual General Assembly held at the Hallenstadion in Zurich on April 17, 1985.

Rainer E. Gut (90) is no longer Honorary President of Credit Suisse. At the big bank’s last general meeting, this was announced by the longtime chairman of CS. However, very modestly, in a small circle. “Handelzeitung” didn’t even want the media to know about it. The bank confirms his departure.

With this, Gut prevented him from “deselecting”. Even with the takeover of CS by UBS, its functionality would have already become obsolete. However, it did not appear in public for years.

Already 1996 merger plans

Rainer E. Gut wanted to make Credit Suisse a big deal. He was one of the bank’s most dominant leaders and for decades determined the fate of Escher-Bank.

Gut’s “Hunter Strategy” made Credit Suisse the largest bank in Switzerland. It would have preferred to merge UBS and Credit Suisse in 1996. But UBS treated him coldly. (be)
