His voice bothers many people in the country. “Are you really talking like that?” or “Now talk normally” are good comments on the net. “Of course I play with my voice,” says Fabian Egger (24), who made a name for himself with his Tiktok channel. “But the really bad reviews got me. Even though I had to listen a lot, I haven’t solidified yet.”
Known by the stage name ‘Der Intern’ on social media, Egger tours all over Switzerland for his fans on Tiktok. Runs to Europe’s highest village in Juf GR, hikes with llamas in Huttwil BE or travels around the country in 24 hours by all possible means of transport.
Egger meets Blick at Lucerne train station. “Let’s quickly make a story for Instagram,” he says, pulling out his cell phone and taking a selfie in front of the station building. “Where are we? Level: easy »writes to her followers. Less than a minute later, the post has already been published. “Of course I’m fast. I’ve been doing this multiple times a day for three years,” she says.
In the spring of 2020, Egger started from scratch. Tiktok was his first platform. “It was the first corona lockdown and I was bored. That’s why I made videos.” Egger had less success in Swiss German. “Then I switched to standard German and my videos were suddenly derailed.” His account currently has 115,000 followers. “I check the number almost every hour. I’m almost like a junkie.”
Egger never takes a break. Slogan: one day, one video. Behind the camera is his wife, Nathalie (24). “I’m a perfectionist. Nathalie now knows me and knows how I want the video to be,” says Egger. She admits that she sometimes suffers from the stubbornness of the relationship.
Egger is now one of Switzerland’s most recognizable Tiktok stars. Things are going so well that he started his own business in February. Prior to that, she was the social media face of Swiss clothing brand Nikin for a good year. “It was the right time,” says Egger in his small studio at home in Kriens LU.
Although his videos are very professional, the way Egger works remains simple. He installed soundproofing mats on the walls to make the room sound “like a radio studio.” Tiktoker continues to edit videos in a simple smartphone app. “Why is it complicated if it can be done this way,” Egger says.
Success justifies it. There are about 3000 francs per cooperative. “Three orders a month, and then Nathalie and I could make good money out of it,” Egger calculates. And does this work? The start is promising, he says. “I’m living my dream.”
