Traditional Zurich shop desperately looking for a new place

Musik Hug has to vacate his favorite bar in Zurich’s Limmatquai.

Musik Hug’s store in Zurich’s Limmatquai is legendary for anyone interested in music. There are the most special notes, great guitars, flutes of all kinds. And pianos! The best of the best. But now Musik Hug is no better off than many other well-established stores that have to make room for stronger tenants. “Hey Zuri, we’re looking for a new place to stay”. As “Tages-Anzeiger” says, it says so on a sign in the window.

The search was necessary because the rent will be adjusted at the local interest rate from 2025. And soon only global fashion chains like H&M or Zara will be able to pay for it. The time is moving on. Next year, the Zurich music store will have to vacate its store – the local bar – which is very well located in the city center. “We haven’t found a financially viable solution so far,” says Sandro Peduzzi, project manager for location search at “Tages-Anzeiger” Musik Hug.

That’s why Musik Hug now lets something bounce. He asks his customers for help to find a new 1600 square meter shop. It’s definitely not an easy thing. Such places are rare. And mostly not affordable in the city.

Musik Hug does not take important tips from customers. Bechstein has a custom-made Hoffmann piano. It’s worth CHF 13,000. For this you get a well-equipped, used small car. According to the report, the noble instrument even has a mute key. Allows you to play with headphones. Ideal for an apartment to rent!

Credit Suisse property?

Musik Hug has almost no requirements for new hangout. Best pedestrian location? Not necessary. It’s the city center that matters. And there are no industrial zones between garages and construction centers. “Our customers don’t feel comfortable there,” says Peduzzi. He has already received the first recommendations. An office building belonging to Credit Suisse is among them. It is currently in talks with five owners. He’s in good spirits. “People realized that we are not closed like Jelmoli. We are looking for something new,” he says.
