Featured here in a photo from 2014, Beatrice Tschanz (78) finds harsh words for the federal government and banks’ communications performance around the CS emergency solution.

Beatrice Tschanz (78), “great lady” of Swiss corporate communications. The former journalist and head of communications for Ringier (Ringier publishes Blick, among other things) received the most praise for this in the fall of 1998, when he showed great delicacy and precision when dealing with the crash of a Swissair plane in Halifax (Canada). .

In an interview with Personal, Tschanz disagrees with the comparisons between the 2001 Swissair grounding and the current “CS grounding” due to completely different circumstances. But Tschanz doesn’t have much time for communications performance from the federal government and banks, especially during the announcement of the CS emergency resolution last Sunday.

Federal Councilors Alain Berset (50) and Karin Keller-Sutter (59), National Bank boss Thomas Jordan, Finma President Marlene Amstad (55) and Bank Presidents Colm Kelleher (65, UBS) and Axel Lehmann (64, CS) Tschanz’ He describes it as “pathetic”.

Keller-Sutter is still the best

Keller-Sutter was the most dominant, though “petrified”. Berset was ‘nervous’, Lehmann was ‘pitiful’. Like many others, Tschanz complains that Lehmann could not find a single word of apology at this difficult moment. Jordan was “feeling”, Kelleher was dry but “inwardly victorious.”

Despite time pressure, Tschanz says “definitive preparation” will be necessary, where “every sentence is true”. While there was a lot of repetition in the conference, there were also many unanswered questions. According to Tschanz, no security and stability was conveyed – on the contrary, the impression of a hasty exercise was created. “It was unprofessional,” Tschanz says.

Tschanz also disagrees with Finma President Amstad’s reference that a social media post contributed significantly to CS’ downfall. The influence of social media is overrated. “I found a very weak argument when I used that as an accusation.”

Facts are certain

Tschanz no longer wants to be used for communication services. However, he now advises banks to communicate fact-based: “Every sentence must be a fact – no speculation, no-we can-we-can-maybe.” He advises the federal government for his communication – at least on CS matters: “Not to support uncertainty with a fussy look.”
