On January 1, 2022, I published an article on Blick: “The stock market year 2021 was great – how good will 2022 be for investors?” Top-notch experts predicted another good year for the stock market.
Oh good. It’s almost Christmas again. I’m colorblind too, but it seems my red-green weakness isn’t obvious enough. Because when I control my investments (stocks and cryptocurrencies) I see very clearly – and specifically – the color red.
A year of fear for investors is coming to an end. SMI lost 17 percent, German Dax 13 percent and American Dow Jones 10 percent. Even the Nasdaq, the technology exchange in New York, lost 34 percent!
Outlooks for the upcoming stock year are frowned upon. As in the current example, experts are often wrong. However, I would like to stand next to Swiss Life’s chief economist and Credit Suisse’s chief investment officer (CIO). Because if you examine your predictions for January 1, 2022, you were actually right on every point.
Corona actually no longer dominates the markets – the epidemic is over in the stock markets. Global supply chains have recovered. And interest rates rose as predicted.
What was not on the agenda at that time and what the experts could not foresee was the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Putin’s war of aggression with all its implications on the global economy has greatly impacted the stock market year 2022.
In the coming days, you will be reading the 2023 stock market forecasts in Blick and other newspapers. How much you put on it is up to you.
Ultimately, what applies to me in this regard is the Christmas insight known as the serenity prayer of the US philosopher Reinhold Niebuhr (1892-1971): “Give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change some things, the one I can change and the one from the other. wisdom to separate.”
