829,527 new passenger cars were registered in the EU in November, 16.3 percent more than in the same month last year, the European manufacturers’ association Acea announced in Brussels on Thursday.
This was also the fourth consecutive month of increases. However, after eleven months of this year, there is a 6.1 percent minus to about 8.36 million vehicles compared to the same period last year. Also, November was well below November three years ago, when nearly a million new cars were registered.
The significant increases in the recent period still cannot compensate for the decreases in the first half of the year. Among the four largest markets in the EU, Italy has so far been the weakest performer, minus almost twelve percent, while Germany is still the best, with two percent fewer registrations. France (almost minus nine percent) and Spain (minus four percent) are in between.
