Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk (51) is allowing users of the text messaging service to vote in a poll about the activation of blocked accounts. On Wednesday evening, he asked in a tweet whether the platform would offer a “general amnesty” to affected users. Users who violate the law or spread spam are excluded from this type of amnesty.
Users of the online service can vote yes or no until Thursday evening. According to the business magazine “Forbes”, more than 700,000 votes were received in the first 45 minutes. As of Thursday morning, there were more than 2.5 million.
230 million active users
More than 72 percent supported activation of blocked accounts. Such surveys are not representative. It is unclear whether and how many votes were cast from automatic accounts. According to the latest information, the service has more than 230 million daily active users.
Musk announced in late October that he would form a council on how to deal with controversial content before Twitter accounts were reactivated. Last week, after a user survey, the tech billionaire activated the account of former US President Donald Trump (76) without a committee. Trump has been banned from Twitter since January 2021. He expressed sympathy for his supporters, who swept his seat in the US Parliament on January 6.
Problems with advertisers
