Today there are two umbrella organizations – Santésuisse and Curafutura – that are opposed to each other and approach parliament in different ways. “Of course this doesn’t make sense,” Groupe Mutuel boss Thomas Boyer told Le Temps newspaper. Competition is not appropriate in the current situation. Groupe Mutuel has a market share of approximately 10 to 15 percent.

More and more Aargau residents do not pay health insurance premiums

At the end of last year, Bernese health insurer KPT announced its separation from Curafutura. To spice things up, Boyer could imagine Groupe Mutuel spun off from the rival company. “Yes, that’s part of the discussion,” he said. “We must stand with premium payers, and we must do so with one voice.”

Rejection of single fund

The boss of Groupe Mutuel has reiterated his rejection of a single health insurer in the fight against rising premium costs. He described the single fund as “the solution to the weak and those who lie to the insured.” This would deprive them of the only way to slightly optimize their premiums.

The introduction of a standard health insurance scheme has been rejected twice in referendums. According to a survey by Ipsos Switzerland, 60 percent of the population recently spoke in favor of such a radical system change.

No cuts in salaries

According to Boyer, system change will achieve little; It will cover only 5 percent of the costs in the healthcare system. According to him, the service catalog should be restricted, hospital planning should be reviewed and the attractiveness of the general practice profession should be increased.

It is out of the question for Boyer, who earns over 700 thousand francs a year, to cut management salaries. He argued that such an adjustment would mean a reduction in premiums of just four cents a month.
