Warning strikes are currently taking place at Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart airports.

Security control workers at Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart airports are on strike on Thursday. The airline announced on Wednesday that outbound flights to Switzerland can operate as planned. However, since the planes cannot be controlled, they have to make the return flight without passengers.

At Blick’s request, Swiss confirmed: “Flights to Berlin, Hamburg and Stuttgart are operating as planned, but unfortunately we have to operate the return flights without passengers.”

Meanwhile, according to the statement made by the airport, the union extended the warning strike at Hannover Airport until Friday. Other airports that will be affected by a possible extension are not yet known.

1800 passengers need to rebook

A total of 16 Swiss flights were affected: 8 from Berlin to Zurich, 5 from Hamburg to Zurich and 3 from Stuttgart to Zurich. Swiss also announced that 1,800 passengers will proactively rebook at a later date.

Those affected can also re-book themselves. Switzerland asks all passengers to check the status of their flights on the Swiss website in a timely manner.

With the strike, German union Verdi wants to increase pressure on the ongoing collective agreement for around 25,000 aviation security workers. The employer must “finally submit a significantly improved, acceptable proposal.” No agreement has been reached between the collective bargaining parties in the five rounds held so far. The next round of negotiations will be held on March 20. (SDA/rule)
