Defense business costs Boeing another billion dollars

First of all, as Boeing announced Wednesday in Arlington, rising costs and technical problems with tanker planes for the US Air Force, the presidential aircraft Air Force One, a stealth drone and a trainer aircraft, are driving the 3.3 billion US quarterly dollar loss. .

A year ago, the shortfall was only $132 million. The passenger and cargo aircraft business for commercial aviation also remained in the red, but the division’s sales were up 40 percent thanks to a significant increase in deliveries.

Group-wide sales rose just 4 percent to just under $16 billion. This was due to the armaments and space division, whose revenues fell by a fifth to $5.3 billion.

Overall, Boeing clearly missed the average expectations of industry experts. In recent years, Boeing has repeatedly suffered billions of dollars in losses mainly due to problems with passenger planes. European competitor Airbus had already taken the position of the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer from the former world market leader in 2019.
