Because of the monthly rent of 25,000 francs?: New tenants sought: Geigy Villa has been empty for years

Geigy Villa had been vacant for two years.

15 rooms, its own park with private access and a hall with a large chandelier. At the former headquarters of the Geigy family in Basel, only one thing is missing: tenants. The property had been vacant for more than two years, CH Media newspapers reported. And this is despite the fact that the interest is basically there.

165 (!) years ago, Karl Geigy (1798–1861) was born in St. Petersburg, in the very heart of the Rhine city. He built the villa on Jakobs-Strasse. The merchant and politician was chairman of Centralbahn, which later became SBB. Geigy had a specially made gap in his fence. If the President requested, the train would stop behind his house.

Monthly rent is just under 25,000 francs

Today the hole was closed and the owner changed. Northwest Swiss dairy cooperative Miba is now looking for a tenant. According to the announcement, the building is suitable for being a “representative company headquarters”. But potential residents will have to dig deep into their pockets for the 958 square meters of space. Including additional costs, the monthly rent reaches 24,930 francs.

First occupancy would be possible from January 2022. But the villa is still empty. Still, Andreas Herren tells CH Media: “There is interest.” He is responsible for the real estate of the cooperative. “But overall there is no demand for an office headquarters or administrative operation.”

Schools and nurseries are interested

Interest comes primarily from schools, nurseries, nurseries and catering projects. “But in our opinion, this does not fit into the carefully renovated building,” explains Herren. Some uses are not possible due to fire regulations.

The last tenant was the CR advertising agency. The search for the new occupant of the traditional property continues. (wgr)
