Escape the dreary Swiss winter weather and head to the Maldives; a dream! It’s even more spectacular if the journey takes place not in the wooden class of a leisure airline, but on this absolute luxury jet: Beond airline offers its guests only business class seats.

Headquartered in Dubai (UAE), the airline flies to the luxury destination Maldives from various airports around the world, including Zurich. But as Blick reports, the flights are terrible to use. On most flights, only 10 or 15 of the 44 luxury seats are occupied, and at least one flight even took off with a single passenger.

The luxury airline will soon fly to the Maldives; tickets are 3,600 francs!

Now the airline is taking action: the flight schedule is being shortened. Online portal “Aerotelegraph” writes that only six Beond flights will operate from Zurich to the Maldives in January instead of the planned nine.

The clear cut at Munich (D) is even larger: from there the flight plan has only one flight beyond the flight to the Maldives instead of nine as planned.

A spokesperson for Beond told the platform that its “streamlined” flight schedule takes customers’ “booking behavior” into account. As a result, there are no reservations.

Three times more expensive than competitors

This is especially painful because Beond actually wanted to expand: although luxury flights to the Maldives are currently only available from Zurich, Munich and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), 32 Beond aircraft with 52 non-stop connections are expected to be in service in just five years. I travel to 26 countries every year.

It looks like the airline is going over the accounts for now. Good news for sun lovers: There’s still plenty of room for last-minute visitors. All you need is the necessary change: the flight on Friday evening (including the return flight in two weeks) costs 3,600 francs.

For comparison: The holiday airline Edelweiss offers the same route at prices starting from 1,370 francs. But it is in the wood class. If you want to travel with similar comfort to Beond, a business class flight with a Swiss airline is more expensive: available for 6,600 francs.
