Months have passed since a child was born in Einsiedeln Hospital. The maternity ward at the regional hospital has been closed since mid-October. It was supposed to reopen in January. But nothing will come of this anymore.

According to the statement, the hospital failed to get enough staff to the delivery room on time. Two midwives from “German-speaking countries” applied. However, your foreign certificates must first be recognized in Switzerland. This may take some time.

“The hospital must be closed!”

Unless this is the case, the maternity ward will remain closed. “We strive to provide the highest standards in ostetric care,” private hospital operator Ameos writes in a statement. “Therefore, we decided not to reopen the department until the recognition procedures are completed and we have all the necessary specialists.”

Those in charge welcomed the announcement extremely positively, writing about “positive results” and “encouraging progress” in recruitment. This does not change the fact that the delivery room will remain closed for now.

On the brink of performance obligation

Even if two foreign midwives are recognized, this does not seem to be enough: Einsiedeln Hospital is currently advertising another full-time midwife position on its website. Start working “immediately”.

It is not yet clear when Ameos expects to reopen its obstetrics department. Einsiedeln Hospital has a cantonal mandate for maternity care and is clearly not fulfilling this duty because the delivery room has been closed for months.

Advert

Responsible Schwyz healthcare director Damian Meier (49) said in an interview with Blick in November: “Of course, we will look more closely, especially in the field of obstetrics, and ask ourselves the question: Is the shortage of skilled workers really the shortage of skilled workers? Is it the reason for the closure or other reasons “Is there?”

internal strife

Einsiedeln Hospital, with 84 beds and 360 employees, has been repeatedly criticized: In November, hospital employees at Blick made serious allegations against the hospital management. A dozen management employees will leave the hospital by the end of the year. “There is a lot of personnel turnover and the situation is getting worse,” a company insider told Blick at the time.

Hospital operator Ameos denies the allegations. “There is no reason for a bad mood in our house,” Einsiedler Hospital Director Daniel Schroer (55) said in an interview with Blick at the time. The mood in the delivery room right now is one thing above all else: loneliness.
