The boss enjoyed the luxury while the employees waited for their salaries. There are serious allegations against cosmetics chain Venus Beauty from former employees. They cite irregular wage payments and missed pension fund contributions. According to “20 Minutes,” there is evidence to support the statements.
Venus Beauty has gained a foothold in Switzerland with affordable laser hair removal. The treatment costs just under 80 francs instead of several hundred francs. The owner said in the media in 2017 that low prices were possible thanks to efficient employees. The company currently has 13 branches.
But it turns out the lower prices also came at the expense of training: “I got trained in less than five hours,” says one employee. Another says many people suffered burns as a result. Customers also write reviews on Google about injuries after attending a treatment at Venus Beauty.
The cosmetics chain denies the allegations against Blick. Almost all of the few complaints were due to too rapid exposure of the treated skin to sunlight or the UV rays of a tanning bed. “A prompt, unbureaucratic and mutually satisfactory resolution was found with everyone who complained,” Venus Beauty writes.
However, it was especially stressful for former employees when salary payments were frequently late. As one of those affected said, his salary was delayed by up to three weeks. Legal documents show that Venus Beauty paid payments months late, sometimes in piecemeal amounts, and never even made a single payment.
In one case, the Zurich Supreme Court ordered the company to pay a monthly fee. According to Venus Beauty, the situation described is wrong. “Currently, our 63 satisfied employees receive their wages on time and in accordance with their employment contracts,” the company says. There are also no labor court disputes.
Additionally, contributions to the occupational pension scheme (BVG) have not been paid. According to documents obtained by “20 Minutes,” pension fund contributions have been cut. However, it was not received by the insurance company. According to an email exchange, the contract with insurance company Swisslife was terminated in 2018 due to non-payment of contributions. But the cosmetics chain writes that it has since been insured by the BVG Reception Facility Foundation.
The owner’s seemingly luxurious lifestyle also adds to the discontent: “I’ve never seen him with the same bag. They were from Gucci or Prada. Everyone knows how expensive it is,” says a former employee. The owner appears on social media with branded bags, luxury cars and expensive hotels.
“On the one hand, he cannot pay us our salaries, on the other hand, he lives in Dolder and comes with branded clothes,” says another ex-employee, annoyed. “We felt betrayed” Venus Beauty contradicts itself here too: its owner does not have a luxurious lifestyle, but rather corresponds to that of a responsible and conscious SME entrepreneur.
