The construction of 15 stations is necessary, as the market share of electric-powered trucks is expected to increase from around 5 percent today to 43 percent by 2030. This is what is stated in the study that the consulting firm EBP Switzerland presented to the media on the occasion of the “transport-CH” commercial vehicle fair in Bern.

The main customer was BKW. These were supported by, among others, the Swiss Commercial Vehicle Association Astag and the Swiss Automobile Importers Association “auto-schweiz”.

The market share of electric trucks will increase a lot, primarily due to stricter CO2 regulations in Europe. A statement about the study states that Switzerland should follow the same path. Regulations can only be achieved with emission-free vehicles. The cost of 15 stations varies between 150 and 175 million francs.

The statement continued, stating that e-trucks will consume a total of half a terawatt hour of electricity per year in Switzerland in 2030. This is less than one percent of today’s electricity needs, says Peter Arnet, managing director of BKW’s Smart Mobility division, according to the statement. It is important to include this need in further planning.

If electric trucks were ordered today, it would be necessary to ensure that they could be charged on main routes. So says Astag director Reto Jaussi, according to the announcement. So it’s about investment security.

Fast charging centers, called stations in the study, are intended to benefit drivers who cannot charge their vehicles in the warehouse or cannot charge them sufficiently. The new centers are intended to complement public stations at transfer points such as distribution centres.
