As a trade unionist, he once fought for the rights and jobs of the yellow giant’s employees. Now the best postman himself is becoming a big job killer. Almost two years ago Christian Levrat (53) took over as the new Chairman of Post’s Board of Directors, with the aim of investing in Post and creating new jobs.

None! The post office kills jobs. They need to save money and lay off jobs. The latest net outage affects 3,855 mail carriers of Post subsidiary Direct Mail Company (DMC). Many of its leaflet contractors face the threat of redundancy as the mailing group looks to integrate the unprofitable delivery service into its organisation.

Critically calculated savings with low-paid workers: This affects many older people, even people of AHV age, who are trying to top up their pensions with mini-pensions on an hourly wage or make a small contribution to their often meager income.

Denner’s contract was lost

Particularly bitter: She is the daughter of Migros, the orange giant who broke the neck of the daughter of the yellow giant Post. As Blick knew from various sources, the termination of Denner’s distribution order was the trigger for DMC to decide to cease organizing delivery altogether. The Denner order isn’t the only major order DMC has lost in the last two years.

Insiders estimate Denner’s order volume at around 8 million francs. It was no longer possible for DMC to compensate for this loss with other measures. In the future – as Denner confirmed to Blick – the discounter wants to include promotional brochures in the Migros magazine.

This is aimed at Cumulus customers and thus bypasses stop advertising signs on many mailboxes, thus providing a greater reach. Shipping with Migros magazine delivered directly from the post office will also save Denner a huge amount of money.

Now it is Levrat’s successors in the Syndicom union and the Transfair staff association who are fighting to keep as many jobs as possible with postal management.
